The research team in Cork is seeking a researcher to work in multi-year projects investigating and implementing novel cloud platform prototypes for enterprise-class business users across a number of industry verticals.
In this exciting role, you will join a team of seasoned researchers with expertise in software engineering, security, networking and data science and collaborate across internal and external technology groups to drive research and innovation advances.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Work under limited supervision on tight schedule projects, with both internal and external teams.
- Perform end-to-end steps involved in solution development, while establishing subject-matter expertise in key horizontal or vertical themes. Steps include design, development, implementation and validation.
- Design and implement research prototypes that test emerging concepts
- Work with the academic and business community to develop new techniques and to contribute to research in Distributed Cloud Platforms.
- Prepare and review project deliverables documentation.
- Assist in the development of research project proposals
- Work in a dynamic team environment with strong technical aptitude.
Essential Skills and Experience
- An accomplished software engineer, who truly understands multiple key technologies and applications, can create software, thrives in a fast-paced, highly ambiguous environment and has the ability and track record of influencing and collaborating with others
- Deep knowledge and understanding of popular cloud provider solutions and cloud orchestration tools (e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP. Pivotal Cloud Foundry, BOSH, Kubernetes, Docker etc.)
- Experience of data center infrastructure components; compute, storage or network.
- Excellent track record in software research, design and development and hands-on programming experience with a language like Java, C++ or Python.
- Accomplished skills in research and implementation, demonstrated capability to define research plans and carry out leading research.
- Vision to transform/integrate research outcomes into strategic roadmaps, by providing a close-to-market vision to research activities.
- Capability to lead a complex collaborative research project with multiple internal and external partners and stakeholders.
- Effective communications and interpersonal skills; is very comfortable interacting with high-level individual contributors and management
- High energy levels, self-motivating and autonomous; able to perform work with minimum guidance.
- Aptitude for collaboration and engagement with multiple stakeholders including academics, internal product development teams, industrial partners and customers.
Desirable Skills
- Hands-on experience using DevOps technologies (e.g. Jenkins, Gitlab, GitHub, Artifactory etc.), Chef, Puppet, BOSH, or related automated/orchestration tools.
- Hands-on experience in Infrastructure automation and building distributed fault-tolerant systems (specialization in infrastructure as code and containerized microservices)
- Knowledge of cloud security policies, standards and procedures for public/private/hybrid clouds; for example: network management, security incident and event management (SIEM), data protection, password/key management, and vulnerability/threat management
- Previous experience with EU Framework projects including day-to-day execution of tasks and development of deliverables.
- Understanding of industry trends in cloud technologies for public, private and hybrid cloud deployments
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field with 8+ years relevant experience; or Masters degree with 6+ years relevant experience or PhD with 3+ years relevant experience.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to travel, Europe primarily.
- Ability to represent Dell externally in business and research communities.
